Open Heavens: A Church In Your House? by Pastor E.A Adeboye

Open Heavens: A Church In Your House? by Pastor E.A Adeboye

Tuesday October 1st 2019
Memorise: And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart. Acts 2:46

Read: Acts 10:34-44 (KJV)
34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)
37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:
40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;
41 Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.
42 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.
43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

Message:-
We often tend to forget that the Church of Jesus Christ started in a home setting (Acts 1:12-14).

The family until is indeed a sub-unit of the entire Church. The home setting is therefore the best nursery to bring up young converts in the Lord, because at that level, it is easy to avoid hypocrisy, as everyone is familiar with everyone. When the Holy Spirit asks the question that is today’s topic, He is actually asking us two things: are members of our household Christians, and do we have any fellowship of believers in our home? In other words, do you allow the gathering of God’s people in your house for the purpose of sharing the word, praying and caring for each other? It is important to ensure that all members of our family are born again. The Lord considers His Church to be the totality of people who have given their lives to Him and are living according to His Father’s ideals (John 7:16-17). We must therefore ensure that members of our household abide by His teachings.

Today’s memory verse describes the early Church’s communal way of life. The effect of this communal living was the expansion of the Church, which Acts 2:47 describes, saying:

Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.”

Many people don’t know the tremendous blessings they deny themselves when they refuse to accommodate house fellowship centres in their homes. Are such people not aware of the story of Obed-Edom, who by divine arrangement allowed the Ark of the Covenant to dwell in his house and subsequently received overflowing blessings? 2nd Samuel 6:11 says:

“And the ark of the LORD continued in the house of Obededom of Gittite three months: and the LORD blessed Obededom, and all ,his household.”

When King David heard of how the Lord had blessed Obed-Edom because of the presence of the ark in his house, he suddenly realised that he had pushed his blessings away to another by keeping the ark in Obed-Edom’s house.  Allowing your house to accommodate a gathering of people in Christ’s Name is therefore a wise thing to do. In today’s Bible reading, the Lord led Peter to the home of Cornelius to preach the gospel of salvation. While he was still speaking, the Holy Spirit came upon the “service” holding in Cornelius’ house. This was a manifestation of the fulfilment of Christ’s prophecy of a time when people will be able to worship God anywhere in Spirit and in truth (John 4:21-24). Church is where two or three people are gathered in Jesus’ Name, and Jesus Christ Himself will be there amongst them (Matthew 18:20). Bring Jesus into your home by establishing a fellowship in your house and make sure members of your family are the first beneficiaries of the grace it brings.

Action Point
Develop a powerful family prayer altar in your home, witness to your immediate neighbours and proceed further to establish a house fellowship centre in your home.

Bless the Lord by Gloria Copeland

Bless the Lord by Gloria Copeland

By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

Hebrews 13:15

Great things happen when you continually confess the mercy of God. Faith rises up on the inside of you. The reality that God loves you begins to sing through your spirit.

What’s more, it brings honor to your Father when you believe His Word and magnify His love and mercy. You honor Him when you speak of His goodness and lovingkindness, when you talk about Him as your Father of love who does only good. It blesses Him when you praise Him as the great God of the universe who is eager to bless and who even gave His own Son because He so loved the world.

David was a man after God’s own heart. He knew how to praise his God. Until you have the Word dwelling in you richly so that you can speak psalms and praises out of your own spirit, use the praises of David to magnify God. Speak them or sing them out loud to the Father.

Put His words continually on your lips. You will soon begin to experience the thrill and the joy of realizing that God is indeed “rich in mercy” because of His great love with which He loved us. Your faith will rise to new heights and your Father will be blessed! And you will be blessed.

Psalm 89:1-18

Our Defeated Foe by Billy Graham

Our Defeated Foe by Billy Graham

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword . . .
—Hebrews 4:12

How do we overcome the devil in everyday life? First, we need to recognize that the devil is a defeated foe. The Son of God came to undo the work of the devil. The crucifixion of Christ, which looked like a mighty victory for Satan, turned out to be a great triumph for God, because it was on the cross that Jesus took your sins and my sins. God laid our sins on Christ, so that when our Lord bowed His head and said, “It is finished,” He was referring to the plan of redemption and salvation. Then . . . we are to resist the devil. If we resist him, Scripture says, he will flee from us. Jesus overcame the devil not by argument but simply by quoting Scripture. That is why it is so important to learn and memorize Scripture passages.

Are you struggling with temptation? Read this story about how to defeat it.

Prayer for the day
Thank You, heavenly Father, for the protection of Your Word as I face everyday temptations.

An Expensive Perfume by Tammy Lang Jensen

An Expensive Perfume by Tammy Lang Jensen

I clearly heard this morning,”Have you counted the cost!” Or as David Wilkerson so beautifully puts it,”The Anointing is going to cost you something!”

It is costly precious oil, sowed in tears. Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume (John 12:3). Have you poured yourself out as a love offering to Jesus? If he had told you the cost of The Call in the beginning, would you still have said “Yes”…

The Lord started showing me how when you are sick, and you need an invasive procedure at the hospital. When they call you with instructions and preparations, they never tell you how painful it will be. They give you a list of do’s and don’ts before hand, and say,”It will be over before you know it.” God tells us, Why you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes (James 4:14). The Lord has such a limited time to try and get us to fulfill our whole purpose. Have you said “Yes” to the Master, or have you put Him on hold. This is a “Kairos” moment, the opportune time or season of harvest. But it is also”Chronos”, because you only have a certain number of days on this earth, and then your time is over. Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom (Psalm 90:12)….

So the Lord informs me,”No, He did not tell us of the tears, betrayal, being mocked, persecuted for his name sake.” That we would have to lay down pride, luxury, self, comfort and anything to do with the pride of life. If we knew the cost before hand, or where the journey would lead; we would not have to stretch our faith muscles….
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things (1 Corinthians 13:7)….

DO YOU LOVE ME?

Tammy Lang Jensen

God Answers You When You Ask Questions by Rick Warren

God Answers You When You Ask Questions by Rick Warren

“O Lord, now I have heard your report, and I worship you in awe” (Habakkuk 3:2 TLB).

If you want to hear God speak, worship God.

In other words, thank him for his presence in your life and for being interested in the details of your life. Thank him for answering your prayers: “O Lord, now I have heard your report, and I worship you in awe” (Habakkuk 3:2 TLB).

God gives you a vision. God gives you a dream. You know what God wants you to do, so now you thank him for answering your prayer. That’s part of worshiping God.

What I want you to do is to stop seeing your prayers as a monologue and start seeing them for what they truly are: a dialogue. Prayer is a conversation with God. God hears you when you pray, and he answers you when you ask questions. He wants to talk with you every day. If you faithfully talk to God every day throughout the day, it will revolutionize your life.

It’s important to understand that you can’t hear God until you know God, and there are three levels of knowing God: recognition, acquaintance, and friendship. You may be at the recognition level; you know God is there, but you don’t really know him. Or you may be at the acquaintance level; you know God a little bit, but you don’t know him very well.

God wants you to live at the friendship level. He wants to be your friend, and he wants you to be his friend. God wants you to talk with him all the time.

PLAY today’s audio teaching from Pastor Rick
Talk It Over

I invite you to pray this prayer today: “Dear God, I’m amazed that you would want me for a friend. I really want to learn to have conversations with you. Help me to spend time with you every day. Thank you that you care about every detail of my life. Jesus, I want to know you more and more every day, and I want to depend on you for guidance in my job, my family, my future, and in every other area of my life. I invite you to be the manager of my life, my Lord and Savior, as I follow you and trust you. In your name I pray. Amen.”

An Exceptional Future by Joel Osteen

An Exceptional Future by Joel Osteen

But the path of the [uncompromisingly] just and righteous is like the light of dawn, that shines more and more (brighter and clearer) until [it reaches its full strength and glory in] the perfect day…
Proverbs 4:18, AMPC

TODAY’S WORD:

We all face challenges. We all have obstacles to overcome. But if we can keep the right perspective, it will help us stay in faith so that we can move forward into victory. You may feel right now as though the challenges you face are too big or too overwhelming. One thing I’ve learned is that average people have average problems. Ordinary people have ordinary challenges. But remember, you’re not average. You’re not ordinary. You are extraordinary. God breathed His life into you. You are exceptional, and exceptional people face exceptional difficulties.

But the good news is that we serve an exceptional God! When you have an extraordinary problem, instead of being discouraged, be encouraged, knowing that you’re an extraordinary person, and you have an extraordinary future. Your path is shining brighter and brighter because of your extraordinary God! Be encouraged today because your life is on an extraordinary path. Keep standing in faith, keep declaring victory, keep declaring the promises of God over your life because you have an exceptional future!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Father, today I lift my eyes to You. I know that You are the One who helps me and has given me an extraordinary future. I choose to stand in faith today knowing that You have a wonderful plan in store for me in Jesus’ name! Amen

Wait On God by Joyce Meyer

Wait On God by Joyce Meyer

…For you [and only You] I wait [expectantly] all the day long.

— Psalm 25:5 (AMP)

I am a person of action, and when there is a problem, I am ready to take action, but sometimes I make the situation worse because I didn’t wait to get God’s plan. Being aggressive has many benefits, but it can also cause problems if we are acting independently of God.

I am reminded today of the importance of maintaining an attitude of waiting on God. I am not suggesting inactivity but rather the highest form of spiritual activity, that of trusting God in every area of life. Wait on Him for strength, healing, wisdom, and opportunity. Wait on God to reveal Himself to you and to show you His amazing favor. God is waiting to be good to us, and He looks for those who are waiting on Him (see Isaiah 30:18).

Waiting on God is mostly an attitude of the heart. One that is fully aware that God is everything and we are nothing without Him. We should pray and refuse to take action without assurance that God is leading. Go to Him as early as possible each day, which is the moment you wake up. He is always near, and you need no special preparation to begin fellowshipping with Him. Always remember that God loves you unconditionally and is with you at all times.

Prayer Starter: Father God, I desire to form a habit of waiting on You all throughout the day. Help me not to rush ahead into activities and decisions without acknowledging You. Thank You for Your presence. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
