This teaching is all about spiritual and character-building process in which God removes worldly comforts, dependencies, and aspects of an individual's old self. This "stripping" prepares a person to be entrusted with a higher level of purpose, anointing, and spiritual responsibility.

This message is likened to the biblical process of pruning, where the old must be cut away for new, more abundant growth to occur.

Removal of earthly dependencies: God may remove sources of security and favor from your life, such as relationships, jobs, or finances, if they have become idols or a primary source of your identity. This forces a person to rely solely on God for their hope and security.

Humbling of the flesh: This season is designed to empty an individual of their pride, arrogance, and self-sufficiency. It replaces a person's ego with the truth of God's word, building a deeper and more authentic character.
A test of faith: The stripping process is a test of a believer's faith, revealing where their hope truly lies. When comforts and resources are removed, the only thing that remains is faith in God, proving what a person is truly made of.
Preparation for a new level: The pain of this season is not meant to break a person but to break their will and free them from lies they've believed. By being stripped of the old, they are prepared for a new purpose and a "greater gain" that God has planned.

Transformation over punishment: Though it can feel like punishment, Selman teaches that God disciplines those He loves (Hebrews 12:6). The process is a form of discipline meant for a believer's transformation, not their destruction.
